#TheYouthAreRising: October 15th.

Our only hope to avoid that, is to support this:

The kids from School Strike for Climate are calling a strike for October 15th. It will take place all over Australia (these are their locations). As COP26 approaches, it is crucial to put pressure on the federal Government to act on climate change.

Because of COVID19, however, they have planned only online activities for Sydney. This is a bummer for me, because I don’t know anything about Zoom and RSVP. I hate Twitter and Facebook to death. I don’t like Instagram or Tik Tok. Let me put it this way: I am kind of a bit of a boomer (hopefully, a nice one – at least, I hope so😀).

Any way, if you are like me and you can’t attend their strike, well, you still can help: Donate.

Godspeed, kids!

Transport workers, among others, kept the place running during the lockdowns. Now, with the support of their union – the Transport Workers Union – they are demanding better working conditions and work stability for themselves and for gig economy workers, many of whom are foreign workers. They earned it and even a Senate report recommended an independent body to create and enforce minimum standards in transport.

If forced by their employers’ intransigence – who count with the federal Government’s complicity – those workers are prepared to go on a national strike.

They explain it better:

Protect secure transport jobs because insecure work kills.
Trucking is Australia's deadliest industry, with one truck driver killed every 10 days. Transport workers are 13 times more likely to die on the job than other workers, and one in two know a driver killed on the road.
The link between secure jobs and industry safety is well known.
That's why transport workers are bravely fighting back against an industry-wide push towards insecure work.
The Federal Government can end the insecure work crisis by tackling its root cause: gig services like AmazonFlex crushing the industry and driving a race to the bottom that is smashing decent transport jobs.
It’s time Scott Morrison stood with transport workers in their fight and committed to regulating the industry.
Help our hard-working truckies by sending Scott Morrison a message calling on the Federal Government to finally act to protect secure transport jobs.

People called essential workers heroes, it’s time to honour those words. You can do it by sending Scotty from Marketing this email.
