It ain’t over until it’s over, for Australian workers and for kids fighting for climate change action. Yep, we got knocked down. But we get up again. As that old Chumbawamba song says: They’re never gonna keep us down.
First, Sally McManus’ message to us, workers and trade union members:
The election result is disappointing but rest assured we are not going away and we are not giving up.
The Australian union movement has always fought for fairness and we always will. We will continue to advocate and fight for fair pay rises, secure jobs and a more equal country.
Our campaign will continue. It would have continued if there had been a change in government. Low wages and insecure work are hurting working people and we will keep fighting for change.
The election result is a hurdle, but it is not a reason to back down.
Scott Morrison has no plan for fair pay. He’s addicted to failed trickle-down economics even though we all know that this doesn’t work and harms people.
The re-election of the Morrison Government doesn’t change the fact that we have the highest level of inequality in 70 years and that more Australians are in insecure work than ever before.
The union movement will keep campaigning and organising to win higher wages, secure jobs, equal pay, penalty rates and to end wage theft, and we need you to be part of it.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to join your union – and urge your workmates, friends and family to do the same.
I thank every union member and volunteer who has taken up the fight so far to make Australia a fairer place. Your work and effort has made our movement stronger.
To the millions who mobilised to change the government, I assure you all that we will continue to fight for a better life and better rules for working people. We want you to continue to be part of this fight.
We have built an incredible amount of momentum in a short time and with your involvement we will only grow stronger.
Join us.
In unity,
Sally McManus
