Kate Lee, Executive Officer (Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA), writes that

In light of the terrible consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with widespread destruction ongoing and already more than one million refugees having had to leave Ukraine, the International Trade Union Confederation and European Trade Union Confederation have called a global “Solidarity with Ukraine” day of action on Tuesday, 15th March.
Australian unions are supporting actions in Canberra and Sydney. Please join us at these events, and share these details with your networks.
  • Canberra - Ukraine embassy, 11am. (Level 12, St George Centre, 60 Marcus Clarke St, Canberra.)
  • Sydney - Ukraine consulate, 9.30am. (27-29 Church St, Lidcombe.)

Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA is also a supporter of the international donation drive promoted by the International Trade Union Confederation. If you can donate but haven't yet, you can donate through the page set up by time2act here.

How trade unions are supporting Ukraine
The ITUC’s Ukrainian member organisations FPU and KVPU are providing support to families who desperately need assistance. Trade unions in neighbouring countries including Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova are supporting the increasing number of refugees. People need:
  • food and water provisions,
  • medical supplies,
  • hygiene items.
You can help Ukraine’s workers and their families by donating to the ITUC’s emergency fundraising appeal.
All funds donated will be passed on to our two member organisations to support their humanitarian work in Ukraine and member organisations in neighbouring countries to support refugees.
